Nabuchadnezzar appointed Gedaliah the Governor of Judah, after his violent conquest of Jerusalem. Gedaliah promised to allow the Israelites to live in peace before being murdered.

Ishmael 5th was a son of Johanan. He was one of the captains of the army who assisted the High Priest Jehoiada in restoring Joash to the throne of Judah.
